In a significant move towards sustainability, AG Paving and Building Products has announced a substantial decrease in both carbon emissions and packaging costs following the installation of advanced pallet wrapping equipment. The Northern Ireland-based manufacturer of concrete products reports that this upgrade has led to a reduction of over 7,000 kilograms in annual plastic film consumption.
Equipment Upgrade Leads to Cost Savings

AG Paving implemented new packaging machinery and nano-layered stretch film from supplier Kwikpac in 2024. As a direct result of this partnership, AG Paving has lowered its annual pallet wrapping expenses by more than £39,000. Notably, the cost per pallet wrapped has plummeted from £2.48 to just £0.31, representing an unprecedented 87% savings, as detailed by both companies.
Declan Mc Stravick, AG’s production manager, highlighted the operational benefits, stating that the new solutions have “significantly reduced film usage” while still allowing the company to maintain its efficiency levels. This technology upgrade plays a crucial role in enhancing the company’s overall productivity.
Sustainability in Focus

This initiative is a critical part of AG Paving’s broader sustainability efforts, which aim for a reported 54.5% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 2025. The company had earlier committed to a 30% reduction through its Climate Action Pledge. With this new equipment, AG Paving is not only meeting its sustainability goals but exceeding them by decreasing its CO2 output by 16,284 kilograms in the first year of operation.
Kwikpac’s KwikFilm solution contributes to these goals by incorporating over 30% recycled content. Additionally, it boasts advanced pre-stretch capabilities that enable lower material usage, thereby reducing machine downtime. Gary Skirton, Kwikpac’s sales manager, asserted that their innovations are designed specifically to help clients enhance efficiency while minimizing environmental impact.
Measurement and Verification of Results

While both AG Paving and Kwikpac regard these savings and emission reductions as credible, it is important to note that the CO2 savings and plastic usage statistics have not undergone independent verification. Yet, both companies consider the partnership a successful example of how operational efficiency can align with corporate sustainability objectives.
Awards and Recognition
As AG Paving celebrates 65 years in business, it has received a number of accolades for its commitment to sustainable practices. The company’s proactive approach and measurable achievements underscore their dedication to a greener future in the construction materials industry.
With these advancements, AG Paving and Building Products serves as a model for other companies seeking to balance cost efficiencies with environmental responsibility, demonstrating that significant savings can go hand-in-hand with meaningful sustainability efforts.
