ExxonMobil Signature Polymers has announced a significant collaboration with Inplac to enhance the strength of heavy-duty sacks—specifically targeting 50kg bags commonly used in demanding industries such as agriculture and construction—without increasing the film thickness.
Enhancing Performance and Processing

The partnership aims to bolster the performance of these heavy-duty sacks while ensuring ease of processing, strength, and stability. ExxonMobil Signature Polymers created a new film formulation utilizing Exceed Stiff+ m 0926 resin, which the company claims markedly improves tear and puncture resistance. This development not only enhances the durability and load stability of the sacks but also provides better protection during handling.
According to ExxonMobil, the formulation streamlines production processes by addressing multiple market demands with a single film structure, which could result in increased manufacturing efficiency and new business opportunities.
Advanced Testing Results

The newly developed sack film measures 102.5 microns thick. It boasts superior machine-direction tear strength and enhanced creep performance, significantly outpacing previous solutions. During rigorous testing, these sacks reportedly withstood 10 drops from a height of 3 meters and passed a more demanding 9-meter drop test without any failures.

In a separate but related initiative, ExxonMobil previously collaborated with Malpack in April to introduce a high-performance pre-stretch film crafted from ExxonMobil’s Signature Polymers. This film is noted for its high tenacity, holding force, and stability, all while upholding production efficiency. A standout feature of this new film is its high downgauging potential, which allows for thinner film designs that still maintain performance, ultimately leading to material cost savings.
Premium Wet Films by Nobelus
In a further development within the packaging sector, finishing solutions supplier Nobelus recently launched a line of premium wet films designed for flexible packaging. Notably, these films do not require an adhesive layer and are compatible with both solventless and solvent-based adhesives, making them suitable for application on flexographic presses and wet laminating systems.
The new product range includes the FineGrit Film, which has a sandpaper-like texture, and ScuffProof Film, engineered for damage resistance. These films are designed with durability in mind to protect ink and ensure that the finish remains intact even with regular use.
This innovative progress in packaging by ExxonMobil and its collaborators underscores the ongoing commitment to improving material performance in various industries. With tailored solutions for heavy-duty applications and sustainable packaging options, the sector is witnessing advancements that not only enhance functionality but also address environmental concerns in packaging practices.
