The seizure, which took place on August 17, involved the combined efforts of the Australian Federal Police (AFP), Tasmania Police, and the Australian Border Force under the Tasmania Joint Organised Crime Taskforce (JOCTF).

Discovery of the Cash

The large sum of cash was discovered when law enforcement officers stopped the man near Melton Mowbray on the Midland Highway. A thorough search of his vehicle revealed sealed plastic bags containing the cash, cleverly concealed within a cooler bag. Charges Filed

Following the seizure, the man was arraigned at Hobart Magistrates’ Court on August 18. He faces multiple serious charges, including:

• Dealing with property worth more than $100,000, which is suspected to be proceeds of crime, an offense that carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison.
• Failing to comply with a 3LA (Serious and Organised Crime Act) Order, which could lead to an additional sentence of up to 10 years if convicted.
